This page lists some Olympic crafts you can make at home. Maybe you can even use them in your own Kid Olympics! Be sure to check out the activities page for more fun and games. 

 

Make an Olympic Torch

What you'll need:

  • Tissue paper (reds, oranges, and yellows work best)
  • Empty paper towel roll
  • Glue
  • Markers for decoration (optional)

Directions:

  1. Cut or crumple the tissue paper into fun and/or flame-like shapes.
  2. Squeeze a ring of glue on the inside of the paper towel roll to hold the tissue paper in place. 
  3. Stuff the tissue paper into the roll. Secure any loose sheets with extra glue.
  4. Voila! You're done! You can decorate the paper towel roll with markers for that extra "je ne sais quoi".

Olympic Flags

Making your own flags can be a great way to learn about flags from countries around the world. You can find national flags in the encyclopedia or online. Then you can recreate them out of construction paper and markers, and glue them to sticks, straws, or dowel rods.

Make Your Own Olympic Mascot!

What you'll need:

  • Your favorite stuffed animal
  • T-shirts, hats, or scarves from your favorite sports teams
  • Other fun accessories

Directions:

  1. Couldn't be simpler! Dress your toy up in his/her new gear and go to town!

 

Make A Rhythmic Gymnastic Ribbon

What you'll need:

  • Ribbon, 5 to 6 feet in length (any color)
  • Dowel rod
  • Eye hook

Directions:

  1. Twist the eye hook into one end of the dowel rod.
  2. Thread the ribbon through the eye hook, and tie or sew in place.
  3. Have hours of fun creating gymnastics routines with your ribbon!
